The Island of South Georgia
The island of South Georgia, an inhospitable frozen wasteland of glaciers, snow-capped mountains and freezing winds, lies in the southern Atlantic Ocean east of Tierra del Fuego.
This remote Antarctic island is part of the British territory of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. The British claim to sovereignty of South Georgia dates from 1775 when Captain Cook landed here and dismissed the island as not worth discovering. Argentina also claimed the island in 1027, an unresolved dispute which contributed to the 1982 Falklands war when Argentine forces briefly occupied South Georgia.
In 1916 Ernest Shackleton became stranded on Elephant Island to the south-west, while on his Imperial Straits Antarctic Expedition, Shackleton and a small group of men left the rest of the party to summon help and ended up, after an arduous journey, at King Haakon Bay on the south coast of South Georgia.
They then managed to make it overland to reach help at Stromness whaling station, which led to the rescue of the remaining men. Daring a later expedition in 1922, Shackleton died on board a ship off South Georgia and he is buried on the island at Grytviken.
There is no permanent human population on South Georgia, only the British Government Officer, research scientists and museum staff at Grytviken, but there are enormous populations of penguins, the largest colonies anywhere on earth, with around 400,000 breeding pairs of king penguins, two million pairs of the macaroni penguins and large colonies of four other species.
Visitors come here to watch penguin couples overcome the extreme climatic conditions and nurture their precious eggs through hatching and the vulnerable chick stage into fully fledged members of the colony. The charming creatures work tirelessly together avoiding the seals that lurk in the shallows waiting to pounce and protecting their young from ferocious skua gulls who will snatch one and tear it to shreds.
When he landed here in the 18th century, Captain Cook noted the huge seal and whale populations around the island, but just two hundred years later both had been hunted nearly to extinction. South Georgia is, however, home to 95 per cent of the world’s southern fur seals, half the southern elephant seals, 250,000 Albatrosses, including the massive Wandering Albatross, and up to ten million other seabirds, making a trip here a totally unique experience.

Eurasian Milfoil, an Invasive Threat to U.S. Lakes
Eurasian milfoil is a sensitive looking flora that was once a familiar flora to find in fresh water fish tanks.
Still, It did not stay there. Now it is thought to be an invasive species that threatens North American fresh water streams, rivers, pools and lakes.
In its indigenous Eurasian surroundings it is a relatively innocent plant (but still a bit of a pest) but here, out of its normal waters, it takes over and demolish ecosystems, clogs water intakes and power plants, and makes them unsuitable for recreational purposes.
A Number Of theories are around that explain its foundation. One is that it caught a ride on the ballast of a ship coming from Europe or Asia. That is a good guess. When they tested boats departing invaded water, 25 percent carried some milfoil with it. The other main possibility is it was introduced by individuals throwing out aquarium plants or packing material used to ship live worms.
The most hazardous thing about this flora is that it can adapt to live in about every kind of marine habitat in the Northern states. It can live in the cold of Washington State or the warmth of Florida. From clear waters of the Rockies to the brackish waters of the salt marshes it can flourish. To make its life better, nothing seems to like eating it.
Once established it propagates rapidly in waters that range from two feet to up to 30 feet, matting just below the surface and choking out the native vegetation. Some floras like millet are given small chance to grow, which causes problems because they are a food source for many and a home for small aquatic animals. This tangled growth also causes trouble for any mammals or birds that fish for their food. Further more, the vast mats keep the wind from properly oxygenizing the water and suffocating adult fish as well as assisting spawn algae blooms which further aggravate the problem.
These plants are problematic to individuals as well. Not only does milfoil decrease water quality but the mats make shoreline bathing impossible. Milfoil impedes fish breeding, which means fewer fishermen. Milfoil is also a problem for boatmen because it can become entangled on the engine, cause dangers for water skiers and block navigation hazards from the sailors view.
Residential Districts and companies are also put at a disadvantage because of this small water flora. Water intakes or over flows can get clogged leading to shortages in some areas and flooding in others. Dykes and electrical energy output can also be affected if the water flora mats get caught up in the dams.
Milfoil control has been challenging. Mostly poisonous substances are out of the question as they demolish the very ecosystem they were meant to save. Manual removing the flora isn’t fully successful because the parts that break off can form new plants somewhere else. For that reason the large automatic harvesters are only used in the worst cases and then only as a first step. Milfoil has been more successfully removed by vacuum dragging, which can pick up any broken pieces left behind. A weevil maybe the solution to the milfoil dilemma as it love to eat the water plant and is a natural way to battle the weed.
Milfoil is just one type of unwanted species that has outstayed its welcome; many other unwanted aquatic plants are still thriving across the country. When plants or animals are inserted outside their natural environment, you can’t anticipate the significances.
Taxation For The Self-Employed
A lot of people fantasize about having their own business and be their own boss. Creating a small or large business would also contribute to the decrease of unemployment and build up the country’s revenues. Businesses is also where micro and macro economics stand on through the free market system where small and big businesses are the lifeblood.
These days’ economic climate has prompted a lot of individuals to put aside cash and a good number of these people are wishful that the money they were able to saved will be sufficient to start off their own business.
While people dream of becoming a self-sufficient businessman or businesswoman, many of them also wonder where and how would they start.
From how much capital is needed to tax burdens are just a few of the things to think about when opening up a business.
Nearly all things start out small. It is best to be slow but sure than be fast and crash. In business, thinking before acting is always beneficial because the future of your business will depend on it.
If you’re going to start a business on your own, it is identified as an unincorporated business. Sole proprietorship, partnership, and family trust are considered as unincorporated businesses.
In an unincorporated business, you are the business. As you earn profits, you’ll also have to pay taxes. The total profit you will earn is from the sales you made minus the allowable business costs.
Being self-employed include the assessment of business profits in the yearly tax return.
If you are a worker or labourer, chances are you do not fill out any tax return paper each tax year since your employer’s accountant/s already do it for you.
This is known as the PAYE (Pay As You Earn) method and employees just have to sit back and wait for their tax-deducted pay every month.
Self-employed individuals are required to do their own tax return. Income and capital gains are required to be written down in a tax return so that the Inland revenue could compute how much you should be paying on your tax bill.
Besides taxes, people who are self-employed also need to put in to two kinds of National Insurance. These are Class 2 and Class 4 contributions.
Class 2 contributions have a £2.40 rate per week and are mostly paid monthly or quarterly. You can, however, file for an exemption if you are positive that your profit for the year will be below £5,075 which is accepted as grounds for small revenue.
Class 4 contribution has an 8% rate if your annual profit is between £5,715 and £43,875. An extra 1% will also be charged if you exceed £43,875 and will be part of the January 31 self-assessment form.
A penalty is charged if you are not on time on paying your tax bill. Hire an accountant if you’re not sure what to do.
Where there is upside, there is also a downside.
In the event of a bankruptcy, the proprietor’s creditor/s can seek payment from the his/her personal funds (if any) or can even obtain his/her real property. The owner is quite safe if the capital he used to start the business is his own and not a loan.
For partnership, you or your partner/s are held responsible if one of you have incurred debts. In short, you will answer for your partner’s debt within the business even if you have none.

What Is The Big Deal Of Getting Term Life Insurance
What Is The Secret Of Term Life Insurance??!
Term life insurance is a type of life insurance coverage which is only valid for the term of the life insurance contract.
In a nutshell, when you purchase term life insurance, you and the insurance company enter into an agreement to provide you coverage for a specific term, the length of the agreement, for a specified premium each month or year.
If you’re the type of person who:
* just wants a “no frills” full coverage;
* just wants to get the highest value coverage for the lowest cost; and
* is not engaged in a dangerous hobby or profession…
term life insurance is for you.
It’s because of this simple rule above that, with the Consumer Advocate Strategy, you’ll be able to save your precious dollars and still get the best coverage you can!
So stay with me and read on…
What Are the Benefits of Term Life Insurance?
One of the benefits is the lowest prices and rates out of almost all life insurance coverage types. The reason behind this is because there is no return cash value once the term’s maturity is reached unused, unlike many of the other life insurance types.
What’s Not Covered in Term life Insurance?
Term life insurance, just like every other insurance type, has certain exclusions which are not covered.
Many life insurance providers require a form which has numerous questions about your occupation, activities, and hobbies, and your premiums are based on an assessed risk according to your answers, among other factors.
If you engage in high risk activities or work in a high risk occupation, you will have higher rates than people who do not. If you are a commercial pilot, or you fly planes as a hobby, you are at a higher risk for death than an accountant or lawyer.
Your premiums are based on your risk factors, and the more risks you take the higher these premiums will be.
So How Does The Low Cost Justify Itself Again?
Term life insurance offers better life insurance costs than other types because the policy only serves to be in force during the lifetime of the policy. With no extra benefit to it after it expires, you are charged a way lower rate than the other policies that offer other “value-added” features to sweeten the deal.
Term Life insurance is a “no frills” insurance policy and its low prices serves to emphasize that point.

Heart Jewelry Solution
Christmas is soon here, and St. Valentine’s Day will soon be here. Have you given any thought to what you will be giving those loved ones on your gift giving list? Have you considered a beautiful piece of heart jewelry? They make the perfect present for almost any occasion. We will be talking a bit about heart jewelry in this post, and a bit about the history of jewelry in general. Greetings to one and all…
Since the emergence of man (and women) on the world scene, jewelry has been designed and developed to give to those they love. The first recorded history of jewelry we have is in Africa, where ostrich eggs were often used to make beautiful pieces of art. When jewelry development migrated up to the Mediterranean area, jewelry was often used to cast off the “evil eye”. It was surmised that an enemy could cast a spell on you by giving you the “evil eye”, and jewelry could be used to safeguard you from it.
When the U.S. emerged from WW2 jewelry production exploded. Different artists explored different materials and designs, but the old “stand bys” are often still the favorites. Forms of heart jewelry that are currently being made are: crystal, diamond, desert, double-heart, glass, god’s, half-heart, gold, open, pink, silver, ruby, sterling silver and white gold. Quite the variety don’t you think?
We go into more details on this beautiful art form on our web site. We would love to have you join us in exploring this world some more. Welcome one and all…
